Innovations in delivering mental health support

Over the course of my career  I became increasingly convinced of the need to make psychological support more accessible to people struggling with common mental health problems. This is why I became enthusiastic about a development called e-mental health. This is a relatively new and innovative way of making psychological support  more accessible, by offering this online.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): guided and online!

During my early years as a psychologist working in the field of mental health, I underwent intensive training in an approach called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). The CBT approach has been well-researched, and has been found to be one of the most effective approaches, currently available, for tackling a broad range of mental health problems, such as symptoms associated with trauma, depression and anxiety.

This new-found interest in e-mental health fitted very nicely with my long-standing interest in what is known as guided self-help.

In this approach, persons with mild to moderate mental health problems receive professional support in the use of high-quality self-help resources, to help them deal more effectively with their problems.

So, it was the fusion of these two developments that eventually gave rise to the idea of offering clients high quality self-help resources, and of supporting them in their use during online sessions, using the technology of video conferencing. PsychOnline4u was born!

Therapy with CBT, EMDR and PET: online!

The CBT approach has been well-researched, and has been found to be one of the most effective approaches, currently available, for tackling a broad range of mental health problems, such as symptoms associated with  depression, anxiety and  trauma.

My new-found interest in e-mental health fitted very nicely with my long-standing experience as a cognitive behavioural therapist.

In this approach, persons with mild to moderate mental health problems receive professional therapy to help them learn key psychological skills. They can then use these skills in two ways: (a) to overcome their psychological problems and reclaim their mental health; and (b) to strengthen their resilience and mental wellbeing and so prevent future problems from developing.

So, it was the fusion of these two developments that eventually gave rise to the idea of offering clients these therapies in live online sessions, using the technology of video conferencing. PsychOnline4u was born!

My mission: making online therapy more accessible

Focus of PsychOnline4u

Although physically located in the Netherlands, PsychOnline4u seeks to offer accessible psychological support to potential clients living anywhere.
That’s my mission! I know, from my own personal experience, and from speaking with people I have met, both at home and abroad, that it’s often not easy for people who are struggling with mental health problems (and particularly for those living in rural areas!), to access support from a psychologist.

That’s why I believe that e-mental health, in the form of live online psychological support, can help make the proven-effective approach CBT more accessible to people who can clearly benefit from it. That, in a nutshell, is precisely my mission with PsychOnline4u!
